Kiss on the Street

Photographing couples on the street teaches me a lot about photographing couples for their engagement shoots, or on their wedding day. How do the couples move? Where can I position myself so I am not disturbing a moment? How do they interact with each other? This is the kind of information I pull from when photographing strangers.

This was taken while I was waiting for my friends at the AGO. I was looking out the doors to see if I could find any of them, and then these two approached each other and kissed. I had to react quick. My exposure was off because I went for the moment over exposure. But when I got my film back, I was happy with the imperfection.

I always try to hold onto the amateur part of me from when I first started shooting. Little decisions like choosing moment over exposure, helps hold onto that “free from rules” approach.

Taken with a Contax G2. Film developed at
Downtown Camera.
