“…You really knew how to frame the moments we sought after. It really shows through your photographs that every shot was taken with creative intentions, but at the same time you allowed your subjects to be in their natural, undisturbed state so that nothing was staged - exactly why we love your style and approach!…So glad you were there to help us document our special day exactly the way it happened, and not dressing anything up to capture what it isn't...”

— Viola + Carlos

Viola playing Ryuichi Sakamoto for her first look portraits. Photographed with a Leica M6 and Kodak Gold 200.

I could have intervened and closed the closet for a cleaner backdrop. But I like it open. I like that you can see all of the groom's shirts as the bride puts on her socks. That's what their room looked like that day and nothing is better than real.

I have a blog series called, “Why I Love This Photo.” And one of the posts featrued the following two photos.

Before the wedding day Viola & Carlos said they would love to have some formal photos with immediate family, as well as candid ones with their family and friends.

While I took lots of photos of them laughing and smiling with their family, I was still waiting for something different to line up.

In the first photo, the Carlos’ father was standing outside, and his mother and sister stood inside. Then Carlos walked over and I just asked him and his father to turn and look towards me. It’s the photo I was waiting for… the whole family together in one frame but aligned differently.

It’s more formal but worked within the natural movements of the people. I couldn’t have directed a photo that resulted in something as natural and interesting.

Photographed with a Leica M6 and Kodak Gold 200.

I loved the bride’s effortless ponytail. There are always close detail photos of the brides hair when it’s perfect, but there’s a lot to appreciate with a hairdo that has shown it’s lived through a party.
